Privacy Policy

The short version: Your manuscripts, lore documents, and character profiles are stored on your hard drive using the File System Access API. They never leave your computer. We don't read, store, or have access to your creative work.
1. Who We Are
Inkstride is an AI-powered writing companion operated as a sole proprietorship. Our website is inkstride.app.
2. What We Collect
We collect only what's necessary to operate the service:
- Account information: When you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture from Google. This is used to identify your account.
- Usage data: We track the number of AI calls you make per billing period to enforce tier limits. We do not log the content of those calls.
- Payment information: If you subscribe, payment processing is handled entirely by Stripe. We never see or store your credit card numbers.
3. What We Do NOT Collect
We do not collect, store, transmit, or have access to:
- Your manuscripts, chapters, or prose
- Your lore documents, character profiles, or world-building notes
- Your editing history, drafts, or revisions
- Your file system structure or directory contents
All creative content is stored locally on your device using the browser's File System Access API. Your project files are standard folders and text files on your hard drive that you own and control completely.
4. AI Processing
When you use AI features (Send to Forge, Quick Suggest, Kill List, Deep Audit, Character Discovery), selected text is sent to our AI provider for processing. These transmissions are:
- Transient: Text is processed and the response is returned. We do not store the content of requests or responses.
- Encrypted: All data in transit uses HTTPS/TLS encryption.
- Not used for training: Your text is not used to train AI models.
5. Authentication
We use Google Sign-In for authentication. When you sign in, Google shares your name, email, and profile picture with us under Google's Privacy Policy. We use this information solely to identify your account and manage your subscription.
6. Cookies & Local Storage
We use browser localStorage to store:
- Your authentication token (JWT)
- Your preferred AI provider and model settings
- Application state (sidebar width, last opened chapter)
We do not use tracking cookies or third-party analytics cookies.
7. Data Retention
- Account data: Retained while your account is active. You may request deletion at any time by emailing us.
- Usage records: Monthly call counts are retained for billing purposes and automatically reset each billing cycle.
- Creative content: Never stored by us. Exists only on your device.

You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your account and associated data
- Export your creative work at any time (it's already on your hard drive)
10. Children's Privacy
Inkstride is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy occasionally. Material changes will be communicated via the application. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
