Terms of Service

1. Acceptance

By accessing or using Inkstride ("the Service"), you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, don't use the Service.

2. The Service

Inkstride is an AI-powered writing companion that provides:

• A manuscript editor with chapter management
• AI-powered prose analysis, suggestions, and pattern detection
• Character discovery and dossier generation
• Lore and world-building document management
• Export and compilation tools

All creative content is stored locally on your device. We provide the software interface and AI processing capabilities.

3. Your Content

Your content is stored on your local file system. We do not host, store, or have persistent access to your creative work. When you use AI features, selected text is sent transiently for processing and is not retained.

4. Accounts

• You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service.
• You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account.
• You must provide accurate information when creating your account.
• One account per person. Account sharing is not permitted.

5. Subscription & Billing

• Free Preview: 3 AI calls. No credit card required.
• Paid tiers: Billed monthly via Stripe. Prices are displayed at checkout and may be updated with 30 days' notice.
• Overage: Some tiers include overage pricing for calls beyond your monthly limit. Overage rates are displayed on your plan details.
• Cancellation: Cancel anytime through your account settings or the Stripe customer portal. You retain access through the end of your current billing period.
• Refunds: We offer refunds on a case-by-case basis within 7 days of purchase if you've used fewer than 10 AI calls in that period. Contact us to request a refund.

6. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Use the Service to generate content that violates applicable laws
• Attempt to reverse-engineer, exploit, or abuse the AI processing pipeline
• Circumvent usage limits or billing mechanisms
• Resell or redistribute access to the Service
• Use automated tools to make excessive API calls

7. AI-Generated Content

AI suggestions, edits, and analysis provided by the Service are tools to assist your writing. You are responsible for reviewing and accepting any AI-generated content. We do not guarantee the accuracy, originality, or quality of AI outputs.

AI outputs may occasionally produce content that resembles existing published works. You are responsible for ensuring your final manuscript does not infringe on others' intellectual property.

8. Availability & Modifications

• We strive for high availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted service.
• We may modify features, pricing tiers, or AI capabilities with reasonable notice.
• Your local files are never affected by service changes — they're on your hard drive.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law:

• The Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind.
• We are not liable for any data loss on your local device (back up your work!).
• Our total liability is limited to the amount you've paid us in the 12 months preceding any claim.
• We are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages.

10. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms. You may delete your account at any time by contacting us. Upon termination:

• Your local files remain on your device — we can't touch them.
• Your account data will be deleted within 30 days.
• Any remaining subscription period is forfeited if terminated for violation.

11. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Washington, United States. Any disputes will be resolved in the courts of Clark County, Washington.

12. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms with 30 days' notice for material changes. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance. We'll notify you of changes via the application.
